Where Do I Start?
Start with defining your gardening goals.
- How big will your garden be?
-
- Are you just having fun with extra vegetables?
-
- Are you eliminating part or all of your grocery bill?
-
- Do you want to grow enough for your family and that’s it?
-
- What tools do I have and what tools will I need?
- Where will your garden be?
-
- Do you have enough space?
-
- Do you have a spot that gets enough sun?
- How many different vegetables do you want to grow?
- How do you want to grow your garden?
-
- Conventional garden (using chemicals, GMO seed/plants)
-
- Organic (using chemicals approved for use in organic gardening)
-
- Natural (No chemicals, No GMO’s, using natural solutions to any pests/problems you may have)
- When will you plant your garden?
-
- What USDA Hardiness Zone do you live in?
-
- When is it safe to plant your garden? (No more frost to kill your plants)
-
- Are you going to start your plants from seed or buy plants already started?
These are a few of the things you need to think about before jumping in to gardening. If you are new to gardening, it is better to start small and add to your garden as you learn. Some things are super easy to grow and some things are more tricky. The best idea is to start with a few easy to grow veggies, get good at growing them, and then expand into some others. It may take a few years to build up to the garden you are wanting to grow.
Please ask any questions you may have and that will help me to know what specific topics you want me to cover! Right now let’s stick to gardening, we can cover chickens, microgreens, and other things a little later.
